An Indian couple are filling a case against their son demanding that he and his wife should either pay a sum of $650,000 or produce a grandchild within a year.

Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad says they want payback that they have spent their savings raising and educating their pilot son and paying for a lavish wedding.

“My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable,” the couple said in their petition filed with a court in Haridwar last week.

The Times of India reported on Thursday, says the couples are demanding a sum of 50 million rupees for compensation which include the cost of a wedding reception in a five star hotel, a luxury car worth $80,000 and paying for the couple’s honeymoon abroad.

According to the papers report, The parents also pay a sum of $65,000 to send their son for pilot training in the United States only for him to return to India unemployed.

Arvind Kumar, The couple’s lawyer said the petition will be taken up for hearing on the 17th of May by the court in northern India.

India has a strong joint family system which the grandparents, nephews, aunt and uncles lives together.

However, the trend has shifted, recently couples prefer to move away from their parents or siblings, and wives prefer to work rather than focus on having children and staying at home.
