Natasha’s suspension: Karimi Admits Putting Akpabio in trouble – Detail Confession

Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi-West, has confessed that he played a role in the challenges Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is facing due to the suspension of his Kogi State colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi-Central).

The Senate handed Akpoti-Uduaghan a six-month suspension on Thursday after adopting the report from its Committee on Ethics and Privileges. The committee found her guilty of violating Order 6 of the Senate standing orders following her heated exchange with Akpabio on February 20, 2025, over the reallocation of her seat.

Speaking during the Senate session, Karimi admitted that he was among those who initially pressured Akpabio to accommodate Akpoti-Uduaghan when she first arrived at the Senate. He openly apologized to the Senate President, saying, “I want to confess my sin today. I am one of those who put you in this problem, and I am very sorry. I was one of those who begged you to accommodate her in the chairmanship position.”

Karimi explained that he had pushed for Akpoti-Uduaghan to head a committee because the previous chairman was also from Kogi State. However, Akpabio had raised concerns about appointing a newcomer to lead a strategic committee, especially ahead of ranking senators.

Things reportedly took a turn for the worse between Karimi and Akpoti-Uduaghan. Their relationship soured to the point where they no longer spoke to each other. Recalling the day of the incident, Karimi claimed that Akpoti-Uduaghan insulted him and his mother publicly on the Senate floor, accusing him of being behind the reallocation of her seat due to his position as the Chairman, Senate Services.

“She abused me and abused my mother because of seats. I am a Christian, I sent a private chat to her and urged her to apologise to the Senate and continue,” Karimi revealed.

He added that he even offered to help her reach out to the Senate leadership to prevent her suspension. However, Karimi claimed that Akpoti-Uduaghan dismissed his message, according to what people close to her told him.

With the Senate now divided over the issue, many are watching to see how this political drama unfolds.
