On Tuesday, a federal high court in lagos , permitted the movement of Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of lagos state ,soliciting for his release from Kuje Prison.
He was imprisoned 12 years for N7.2billion fraud belonging to Abia state.
Justice Idris who set free the verdict was restricted from the case since the arrangement of Kalu, NAN reports but he was later, elevated to the court of appeal.
Kalu, had consequently, set free his verdict on December, 5th 2019 completing a jail term of 12 years and 10 years, on Kalu and Udeogo respectively.
The highest Court had set aside Idris’ verdict “as it relates to the litigant (Udeogu)”, and had ordered Udeogu’s liberty and the second trial of his case.
Kalu in his movement disputed that there isn’t legal basis existed for his continued imprisonment following the Supreme Court’s judgment which declared his trial as invalid and freed Udeogu.
He had filed the movement on May 12 asking the court to cancel his judgment, while the court reserved the case for June 2 (today)
