Doyin Okupe Former Presidential Spokesperson Dies at 72 – Cause of D*æth Revealed!!

Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former spokesperson for ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 72. Okupe, who hailed from Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, reportedly died in the early hours of Friday in Lagos after a period of illness.

The Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Jamiu Ashimi, confirmed Okupe’s death to our correspondent, expressing his condolences. “I just confirmed the tragic news of the passing of Dr. Doyin Okupe. May his soul rest in peace,” Ashimi stated.

Chief Michael Adesanya, the Asojuoba of Isara Remo and a close friend of the late politician, also confirmed his passing in a phone conversation, stating that Okupe died early Friday morning in Lagos.

Okupe served as the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Obasanjo and as the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Jonathan. He also played a key role as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign.

However, his political career was not without controversy. In December 2022, Okupe resigned from Obi’s campaign after being convicted of violating sections of the Money Laundering Act. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found him guilty of breaching sections 16(1) and (2) of the Act by accepting cash beyond the permissible limit without routing it through a financial institution. Following the 2023 general elections, Okupe left the Labour Party and became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, frequently participating in political debates.

Known for his outspoken nature and strong political views, Okupe was respected for his ability to navigate Nigeria’s complex political landscape. A medical doctor by profession, he co-founded the Royal Cross Medical Centre and previously served as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention. He was also a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State.

Okupe’s passing marks the end of a notable and sometimes contentious political career, leaving behind a legacy of boldness and advocacy in Nigeria’s political sphere.
