Arsene Wenger snubs Abumeyang, names Nwankwo Kanu as his best January signing for Arsenal


Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has named former Super Eagles striker, Nwankwo Kanu, as the best signing he ever made in a January transfer window.

The Frenchman brought the ex-Nigeria international to England in the middle of the 1998-99 season, and he highlighted his impact in his debut campaign

The Legend Super Eagles striker later went on to net six times and also made two assists in 12 League games before the1998/1999 season ended.

Kanu spent five-and-a-half years at Arsenal and was part of the sqaud that won the Invincibles title in 2003/2004 season.

Asking about his best January signing in an interview with beIN Sport. He responded,

“What a difficult question. Over 20 years, maybe Kanu. In the middle of the season. That had a big impact and he was a huge player,” he told beIN Sport.

Wenger is currently working as Fifa’s Chief of Global Football Development after retiring from Arsenal in 2018.

He however said that he is not in full support of January transfer window, and he thinks it should be canceled.

“It is not right, when once you have started the season, you have to finish the season with the same players.


  1. Thats for sure……..Kanu was prolific at his time of signing for Arsenal….one of his memeorable game was against chelsea …scoring an hatrick which went into history of d first Nigerian to score an Hatrick against Chelsea……..Wenger will never forget that….
